There was a smart exchange last night between Jon Stewart and Barack Obama, on the subject of communication and narratives and habits of thought and how you break them.
I maintain that Obama is the Communication Candidate because he is far more thoughtful on our favorite subject than pol in recent memory.
This doesn't mean we all ought to vote for him, but it does mean we can all learn by watching his campaign.

I found it interesting that when Stewart asked him why he's involved with celebrities, that Barack's response was, "I use them..." then he stopped and regrouped before going on. But it was telling that he responded that way. I mean, we all know pols are using Oprah, etc., but to say it? Not usually.
Made him a little more human than most in my mind.

Eileen, if Obama's gaffe makes him seem more human to you, do Bush's gaffes affect you the same way? Just wondering.

Re. Bush's gaffes, it's unlikely that Obama will compile a highlight real quite like this:

Hey! You're getting off-subject, David. The question is whether we treat Bush's gaffes the same as other candidates' gaffes.

Well I'm not the one who applauded Obama's gaffe; I celebrate his eloquence. But as far as gaffes, I like them in candidates better than I like them in presidents.
