Shades regular Ron Shewchuk used is For Your Approval blog to review John Smythe's new book, whose title is something about how "CEO" stands for "chief engagement officer."
Better Ron than me.
It's a really good review.

I just read Ron's review of the book. It makes the point one more time--and it's a point I make every week in the college grammar classes I teach: HOW you write something is every bit as important as WHAT you write. Good editing is next to godliness. That first horrendous passage Ron cites? Sheer laziness on the part of the author/editor. I commend Ron for sticking with it and gleaning things from the book. I probably wouldn't have.

Thanks for pointing to my review, David. You know, I was reluctant to be so hard on the book because I really think the content is superb. Smythe is probably one of the world's leading thinkers on how companies can renew their connection with employees. If it were written better it could have been a great, bestselling business book rather than an obscure publication to be read by equally obscure organizational development and employee communications types.

I couldn't read it. I guess I'm wary of the content because it sounds about as lucid as a 4:00 a.m. dream.
