Mark Twain said that if you ever miss anything, just go to Cincinnati, because everything there happens 10 years later.
An account of a human resources conference this week by Shades regular Kristen Ridley on her MyRagan blog reminds us that in our world, the same might be said of HR.
(How in heaven's name could these HR consulting creeps sill be dining out on the same dog-eared diversity demographics bulletins they were delivering 15 years ago?)

You know, I was cleaning up dog puke off my hardwood living room floors yesterday, and I'd MUCH rather be doing that than what Kristen had to deal with the last two days.
Now that I think about it, isn't it pretty much the same?
Regurgitating old "material?"
You can thank me later for the visual.

David - thanks for the plug, but what I love most about being mentioned by name in the blog is that you used a Mark Twain quote.
I love, love, LOVE Twain, he's my very fave quotable person. Did you know that and do it on purpose? Whether you did or not, you made my day!
It ALMOST makes having to attend that fool conference worth it.

Kristen, I had no idea. That Twain quote is one of my old favorites (partly because my dad lives near Cincinnati).

Kristen, I think you missed a great opportunity -- I have to tell you. That conference might have been the world's champion round of bull**** bingo. I hope you were taking notes, because we all want to giggle about people who seriously believe you can leverage human activities into a synergystic framework, thereby architecting opportunites for order-of-magnitude improvement using best-of-breed people-management tools, while mitigating potential challenges in a context of diversity and equal opportunity. That, and rightsizing. - Amy
