Calling all CEO bios

We have a Corporate Hallucinations Code Red. A member is down and needs our help.

Here's the message I got from her:

'Emergency! My CEO wants me to flesh out a more "interesting" bio on him for some business packs he's sending out. Have you seen good CEO profiles that I could show him as examples? Any advice?'

I have never seen a CEO Biography . . . just loads of lousy CEO columns.

Can anyone help? The blog never leaves a communicator behind.

Meredith:

This reminds me of a Crank Yankers -- the one where the woman was pretending to get all turned on during her call to a Tech Support guy. Funny stuff.

Rebecca, Julie's friend:

Seriously? That IS funny stuff...maybe I'll see if they have that somewhere I can download...I have some geek friends who would love it.

Meredith:

I like that!

I don't have any personally, but there is this website:
http://www.surferess.com/CEO/html/biographies.html

It contains bios on lots of well-known CEO's. Maybe checking out a few of these will be inspiring. Some of them are long and some are straight and to the point.

Good luck.

You are welcome. Hey, I don't know much, but I know how to find other people's stuff and "borrow" it, that's for sure. We do it in scripting all of the time. That's why I love the open source world.

All hail google.

Our officer bios are straight forward, to the point, and include the officer's community relations interests as well as his or her duties, history with the company, education credentials, etc. Most companies post their officer bios online, so you should cruise some Web sites in your industry and see what they include. Look for companies with similar corporate culture to yours.

It sounds like your CEO also wants to stand out, so you'll want to make sure his favorite charities and interests are included along with any successes he may have had there. For instance, if he chaired a charity drive and the group had its most successful fundraising that year, toss it in and see if it stays. If he's a self-made success, a little bit of history about how he got his start would be appropriate.

And end with just a touch of personal history. It can be something like he volunteers at the local food bank once a month or donates his time to Doctors Without Borders, or his goal is to golf at every PGA course (or visit every Major League Baseball stadium). Not too sappy, but just a glimpse of personal interest.

Good luck

Cut me a little slack...at least I'm not throwing around the lingo all of the time. ;)

We have one executive who has a fairly straightforward bio on our internal web until you get to the last line, which reads "When she is not endeavoring to function as a competent adult, she dreams of being a flamenco dancer or a rock star."
