Hey, where has everybody been?
Okay . . . sorry about not posting for awhile. As you know, we switched software, and to tell you the truth, I've been writing items every day for two weeks, thinking that all these wonderful gems were being posted to the blogosphere.
I've been writing groundbreaking, synergistic, world-class items on everything from "turning employees into brand amassadors" to "recruiting and enlisting the change agents in your organization."
The stuff I posted would probably have changed the industry . . . but I was confused by the new software, and every time I thought I was posting live to the blog, I was actually sending an e-mail to a company that sells Viagra.
But I have it figured out, now. Thanks for your patience.
I'll try to recreate all those wonderful items . . . but it may take some time. And, in the meantime, I have to get married.
Yes, there is someone out there who has agreed to marry me. Some of you may know her. Her name is Cindy, and her love of life puts mine to shame. She makes me look like a bedwetter.
Anyway, we're getting married this Saturday. I think. I mean, it's all planned and everything, but for the last week or so, I have caught her looking at me with the same look on her face that she has when confronted with suspicious sushi.
Luckily for me, Cindy always eats the sushi, so I think this thing is a go.
So if I'm distracted, please forgive me. But I do have one really cool thing to write about . . . . this wonderful speaking gig that I did last week in Austin, Texas. I'm going to go find my notes and write it up now, because there is some really cool stuff for communicators.
Thanks for your patience. I love everybody.
Steve

Steve:
I speak for all womenhood when I say that your impending nuptials, while exciting for you, will send females across the nation into a severe depression.
You are sexy, handsome, and charming. Cindy is, indeed, a lucky girl.
Okay . . . I just wanted to test the comments section in the new blog, because it wasn't working earlier. If this posts live, then I know it's working.

Steve, I have met Cindy twice. All I can say is, if she chickens out at the last minute and leaves you at the altar, send her my way. I'm not nearly as sexy, handsome and charming as you are, but I can cook. Oh, wait. So can you.

Yes, Shel. I'm afraid so.
Please don't think that night in Napa didn't mean anything, though. I meant everything I said that night . . . you're a wonderful man.

This is starting to sound like a scene from "Sideways" gone horribly wrong.

I will refrain from cinematic commentary and simply say "Congrats!"

I am ass-uming after your last run in with the Catholic church, that the impending nuptials will be taking place in an alternate location? "Hunka Hunka Burnin' Love Chapel and Drive-thru" perhaps?
All the best to you, of course. And condolences to the bride!

Congrats on figuring out the new blog technology. We've missed you. (Oh yeah, and best wishes on that nuptial thing.)

Steve,
Congrats, and remember the 60 40 rule. It will keep you out of trouble ... 60% of all decisions, arguments, etc. go to Cindy and 40% to you.
By the way, thanks for the piece on "adding flavor" to town hall meetings. We are in process of overhauling our format to foster more participation and candor.

I thought the 60/40 rule was that Steve makes 40% of the mistakes but gets 60% of the blame. Oh wait. That's the 0/100 rule.

Congratulations on the impending mate-dom, Steve! At last, someone to share your shampoo with....oh wait, OK, maybe the toothpaste. =)

Ahhh, that's one thing Steve cannot be blamed for: clogging up the shower drain with his hair! :-) (It sure is a good thing he's got a good sense of humor, right Steve? Steve?? No, Steve, don't... AAAIIGGHH!!!)

Hey, thanks for all the nice congratulatory messages . . . I think. Right now it's all about getting through this damned wedding and getting my big, bald ass to Italy, where I plan on going into a food and wine coma the minute I get there, and not coming out of it for nine days.
Two days in Venice, and then a week in Umbria, including cooking classes, day trips to Chianti, and a day in Rome.
By the time I get back, I'll be refreshed and raring to start the new seminar series in the Fall. After the obligatory week-long, post-vacation hangover depression, I mean.

Steve,
Congrats on your impending nuptials to Cindy--hope all goes wonderfully and you have a great time in Italy!
May your life with Cindy be blessed...I am about to celebrate one year of marriage with my husband and I think married life is great!
Also, I am glad you figured out the new software because we all missed you. I was ready to put a pox on Ragan for messing up your blog (silly Ragan entrusting it to you!).

in Austin last week? i am disappointed that there was not any advanced notice. seeing how i work in Austin, i would have spent a nickel or two to come see the show. at the very least, i would have ensured attendance by a couple of our corporate professional communicators.
next time, don't be a stranger...and, best of luck on the upcoming event.

Thanks, Sonya. And jbr, it was a private, in-house event . . . 500 of the company's front-line supervisors and managers gathered together in that wonderful wild game refuge out by the landfill . . . do you know it? It was really neat driving to a speaking job and being surrounded by zebras, bison, ostriches, etc.
But had I know you were in Austin, I would have looked you up afterwards . . . what a great town you live in. I bopped all over sixth street for about four hours, and heard about 12 great bands.

wait, you had a speaking engagement with zebra, bison and ostriches? are you sure you didn't go on your speaking engagement after bopping around 6th street?
next time in town, shoot me an email. there's probably enough bloggers based in ATX to have a blogger dinner.
glad you enjoyed the place...exceptional live music scene. have a blast in Italy!

I am so glad to hear some good news, and wish you the best. And that picture at the top does look really wierd on that background, are they trying to punish you for being popular?
