Come on down to Big D!

I've always liked going to Texas to do seminars.

Even though I've only been to three cities there (Dallas, Houston, and Austin), and only really spent time in one of them (Austin), I've always liked the crowds. Texans are bigger than life. They're not afraid to mix it up. And underneath all that Lone Star swagger, they're really nice.

But a big part of the reason I like going to Texas so much is that I'm an honorary Texan.

Granted, I bestowed that honor on myself, at about 1 in the morning, sitting in a blues bar in Austin, while drinking tequila. "Damn," I said to myself. "This is a cool place to be. You are now officially an honorary Texan."

So, when Ragan came to me and asked if I wanted to extend the two-day Master Class seminar series, and asked for my input on cities, I immediately said Dallas. I would have said Austin, but Dallas is bigger.

So that's where we're going, on January 30 and 31. Although we made the decision to go to Dallas at the last minute, with less than a month to market it, we already have 22 people signed up. After Dallas, we're also going to Toronto on February 16 and 17, and back to Chicago on March 22 and 23.

If you missed the Master Class the first time around, please check out the Ragan web site, and sign up for one of those cities. It's a fun seminar, with tons of good stuff.

And, to my fellow Texans, sign up already, will you? Sonya? Can you bring your bunch to big D? Let's get a fun group together, and make the session at the bar after day one something to remember . . .

Sonya:

Steve, I am so honored to be mentioned by name in your blog entry. As a result of that very effective marketing tool, Judy and I have just signed up to attend! See you in Big D in a few weeks!

Steve C.:

YES!!! I haven't seen the roster yet . . . but now I know there's at least two fun people signed up. Can you arrange a sitter for after Day One??

Steve C.

Steve...adding cities? Bos-ton, Bos-ton, Bos-ton!

Meredith:

You know, I don't know what it is . . . but Ragan never seems to want to go to Boston. I think it's because they always go to New York, and they feel that anyone from Boston would just go to New York, if they wanted to go.

But that's probably not very accurate, is it? And what about the rest of New England?

I want to go to Boston! I'll start pressuring folks to include it at least in the Fall, when we roll out the NEW AND IMPROVED MASTER CLASS, loaded with NEW AND IMPROVED IDEAS, and a NEW AND IMPROVED SPEAKER (I plan to be in real good shape by then, because I'm going to take boxing lessons; so I'll have more energy).

Steve C.

Sonya:

Is the sitter for you? I am confused. :)

Looking forward to it nonetheless!!

Greg Marsh:

If it's even half as much fun as the DC event, it'll be twice as much fun as anyone should be allowed to have in a work-related endeavor!

Greg

Cathy:

Is there going to be a raffle?

Julia Z:

Steve,
I'm interested in your Master Class, yet would like to know what kind of general work background your audience has.
Thanks!
Julia

Steve C.:

Hi, Julia:

Typically, everyone in the room is in corporate communications, with responsibilities for employee or internal communication.

They also may do HR, media relations, speechwriting, marcom, crisis communications, etc. But they all do employee communications.

As for backgrounds, they are usually ex-journalists, english majors, writers, and other creative sorts.

Hope that helps!

Steve C.

Lynn:

Steve, I'd like to come and even have my travel orders signed (yes, I am a government employee) but can't get the Ragan web site to accept my govt. credit card or to get a helpful human to return my call. I gather there are spots at the Dallas seminar, but would prefer to have paid in advance to know there's a spot waiting for me. Any guidance,

Steve C.:

Hey, Lynn:

Someone from Ragan---probably a very sweet lady named Diane "The Bulldog" Tillman---will be contacting you shortly. But you're in. I will personally save you a place. Where do you like to sit? In the front? In the back? At the bar?

Which government agency are you with?

We've got about 35 people signed up . . .which is a great size.

Steve C.

Drat. To me, "Big D" = Detroit. You got my hopes up for a minute.
