First of many?

Tonight, you can watch the premiere of a new show -- on your computer. Maybe you've heard of this new online-only series called "quarterlife" developed by the creators of that hit TV show from yesteryear: "thirtysomething."

Now I found "thirtysomething" mostly annoying, built on the premise of who could whine the loudest.

But I'm intrigued that its producers -- Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick -- have decided to take their new show to MySpace. com and bypass network TV, which rejected the show several years ago.

They are calling it a network-quality show, which dampens my enthusiasm considering what is on nework TV, but news reports indicate that industry insiders are anxiously waiting to see if the online program will fly.

The producers certainly are targeting the right audience with the show, which is about a group of twentysomethings just graduated from college and looking to find their way in the "real" world.

But will it gain traction? Will it be a more professional "Lonely Girl 15" and keep computer users coming back for more? I don't know. I'm willing to check it out. But it better have something to it for me to keep watching as the 36 eight-minute "webisodes" are released on MySpace.com.

Stay tuned. Or, more accurately, stay logged on.

I actually liked thirtysomething. The characters (especially the main ones) had flaws and struggled with many of the things I was dealing with in business and at home.

It broke a fairly rigid mould of what mainstream TV drama should look and act like. Yeah, some of the characters were annoying, but then again, so am I sometimes!
