Quiet Georgia! Is this hospital’s PSA tongue-in-cheek?

I think this video is hilarious, but I can’t tell if the creators intended it that way.

It’s a 30 second PSA from Children’s Miracle Network about free nasal flu spray offered to children. It’s straightforward, informative—and totally bizarre, in a good way.

Maybe I'm groggy this morning, but I can't tell if it's supposed to be tongue-in-cheek. What about you?

Either way, the video has only 260 views. I think it could easily go viral.

Politico reporter Daniel Libit tweeted about the ad Wednesday morning, with the comment “highly retweetable.” Indeed.

This is very informative but I wouldn't have tuned in if you hadn't said anything.

Mike:

The guy in the video is James Bates, a former star linebacker for the University of Florida football team in the 1990s and something of a local celebrity in Gainesville because of his ongoing work as TV sports broadcaster. James has always been known as a bit of a goofball, with a corny sense of humor, so this commercial is in line with his personality. It'll grab attention in Florida, I'm sure, but I agree with an earlier comment that it's just not very good.

You must be groggy ... and it's not that interesting.

I saw it as trying to be lighthearted, upbeat and informative...which beats heavy-handed and ominous, any day!

No way is this tongue in cheek!

My favorite part is the kid saying, "Dad, we never get the flu spray," and the dad saying, "Quiet, Georgia, we're getting it THIS year!"

The psa looks no more tongue-in-cheek than the very entertaining 10 finalists in HHS's contest for psa's -- most of which over-emphasize hand washing to a fault, as a way to reduce the risk of catching the flu. (You can see them, and vote, at http://www.youtube.com/USGOVHHS . I voted for the one that most strongly emphasized droplet precautions, even though it wasn't the funniest.)

Andi:

I'm tired of PR Junkie featuring videos. It used to have a lot of good content. It seems like lately it's always just a brief commentary on a video. Sometimes it's fun, but I'd like to get back to the good stuff.

James A.:

Got to be tongue-in-cheek. The knee bends, the ridiculous uniform, the rubber dodge balls. Either that or this guy needs to take parenting classes.
