Yesterday, I wrote that President Obama planned to highlight Indianapolis PR and advertising firm, TrendyMinds, in his State of the Union speech. The PR firm had experienced 200 percent growth during the recession.
I watched the whole speech—though I did leave the room once, briefly—and didn’t hear the president mention this PR firm. Did I miss it?
Word of the president’s plan to mention the PR agency came from an employee at TrendyMinds. I’ve scheduled an interview tomorrow with the firm’s founder, Trevor Yager. I’ll let you know.
The Washington Post did note Wednesday night that Yager was sitting with Michelle Obama during the speech.

Strictly froma PR standpoint, when you have a disconnect with you audience it usually comes down to the basic notion that you tend to care about things the audience does not, and the audience cares about things you do not. It's often that basic. Mr. Obama has had a significant disconnect for the better part of his first year and the Massachusetts election just crystalized that. Catherine, in answer to your question, there is a disconnect between Mr. Obama, his team and his speechwriter, and the people not mentioned in his speech reflect that.

More importantly, where was the mention of the Fort Hood heroes who were sitting next to Michelle Obama?
