When the world learned last November that Tiger Woods is a philandering sex maniac, the golfer went from being a hero to a zero. And that’s not a subjective observation.
According to the Davie-Brown Index, which tracks America’s sentiments for celebrities, Tiger Woods fell from No. 9 to No. 2,411. There are 2,449 celebrities on the Index.
That means Americans dislike 38 celebrities more than Tiger.
On Thursday morning, I called Matt Fleming, a senior account manager at Davie-Brown. The Wall Street Journal cited him when mentioning Tiger’s slide on the Index. I want to ask Mr. Fleming to identify these 38 celebrities.
(I can’t find the Davie-Brown Index for free online. Maybe it's just me. If you have it and would like to share it, please do.)
I left Mr. Fleming a message, and by end of the day Thursday he had not yet responded.
So, I thought I’d just speculate on which celebrities are more disliked (or, if you prefer, less popular) than Tiger. Here are 38 candidates (in no particular order) that could make the list. Thanks to all the Raganites—and my lovely wife—who chipped in on this one:
1. John Mayer
2. O.J. Simpson
3. Jessica Simpson
4. David Hasselhof
5. Kim Kardashian
6. Ann Coulter
7. Paris Hilton
8. Daryl Hall
9. John Oates
10. Carrot Top
11. Jon
12. Kate
13. “Speidi” (Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag)
14. Molly Ringwald
15. Adam Sandler
16. The Octomom
17. Larry the Cable Guy
18. Celine Dion
19. Don Imus
20. Chuck Norris
21. Rush Limbaugh
22. Steve Guttenberg
23. Yevgeny Plushenko
24. Martha Stewart
25. Giuliana Rancic
26. Howard Stern
27. Keith Olbermann
28. Chris Brown
29. Eliot Spitzer
30. Tila Tequila
31. Glenn Beck

33. JWoww
34. The L.A. Lakers
35. Sean Hannity
36. The guy who played Screech Powers
37. Jay Leno
38. Sarah Palin
What do you think? Who would you add to the list?

Nothing is impossible. Best of luck to you....

@Cheryl -- This list began in earnest with John Mayer--who was on his own apology tour of sorts after his ridiculous Playboy interview--and then O.J. Simpson. When I jumped straight to Jessica Simpson, the list went careening off course--and thank God for that.
As for Joe Jackson, we'll just whisper his name.
@Anonymous (12:14) -- Rip Torn? Really?

Must be Jon Voight and Mel Gibson(worth repeating).

If a celebrity called a press conference and no one attended, would he/she be at the bottom of the list? Or off it entirely? Just wondering if apathy would be part of the "dislike" category. Anyway, I'd like to include shameless self-promoter Joe Jackson (Michael Jackson's father), but I don't want to inflate his ego any further.

@Jill P -- Yes, Charlie Sheen was another glaring omission, so was Ashley Simpson. In retrospect, I think she should bump her sister from the list.

O.J. Simpson should have been #1 on the list. Charlie Sheen definitely needs to be on the list. And Jessica Simpson's sister, Ashley, needs to be there for her infamous lip sync thing on Saturday Night Live.

Not Rush, just a taxpayer who long ago got over the novelty of having Democrats' hands in my pockets. It don't feel so good.

@Jennifer M. -- Gloria Estefan? Better look out. The rhythm is going to get you.
@Anonymous (10:53 AM) -- I disagree with Alec Baldwin. Regardless of his politics and empty promises to "retire," the man is a national treasure.
@Anonymous (10:57) -- Jersey Shore cast ... I see where you're coming from, and while I respect it, I must disagree.
@Krystal -- Kanye is definitely someone who should have made this list. Vick, well, he's on the comeback trail ... sort of.
@Mark -- You're absolutely right about the Chuck Norris inclusion. I've lived my life in fear ever since I published this post. You know what they say about Mr. Norris: "If you can't see Chuck Norris you may be only seconds away from death."
@Anonymous (11:19) -- Rush, is that you?
@Anonymous (12:11) -- What did Tom Cruise ever do to you, beside try his damnedest to entertain you?

I'd leave a comment about how your inclusion of Chuck Norris may be a little misguided, but you've probably already felt his wrath the moment you hit 'publish.'

Kudos to the publicists who manage the public images of Charlie Sheen, Woody Allen, Mel Gibson & Roman Polanski. I doubt any of these fine and upstanding gentlemen can be found below 2,000. Even the PR pros who've commented thus far haven't considered any one of them more disliked than Mr Woods.

Howard Stern? You guys are crazy. You know how many millions of people pay big bucks to listen to that guy on satellite radio? There's no way he's one of the 38 under Tiger.
On the flip side, I completely agree with the first comment addition of Rachel Ray. On my list, she's #2,449.
