Kevin Costner and BP hold a press conference together. Seriously.

I suppose this makes sense.

BP is groping for ways to plug the oil leak in the Gulf and improve its reputation. So why not partner with Kevin Costner? He was in the movie Waterworld, which kind of makes sense because, well, it takes place on water (and it makes even more sense when you consider it was one of the biggest box office flops ever).

Plus, Costner seems like a regular kind of guy.

Costner, BP, and officials from the Gulf region held a press conference on Thursday.

I watched and waited for Costner to deliver a line from one of his best movies, Bull Durham: "We're dealing with some serious shit here."

Nice try, but it's really not ridiculous or odd at all, since it has been well publicized that Costner invented and developed a system that removes oil from the water.
